Manager – Safety Management Systems m/f

The Quality, Compliance & Safety Department is seeking a Manager – Safety Management Systems. The Manager – Safety Management Systems reports directly to the Executive Manager – Quality, Compliance & Safety and is responsible for the tactical management and operational implementation of the Safety Management System in accordance with the organization’s safety policy and SMS framework.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and administer the Safety Management System, ensuring its effective implementation throughout the organization.
  • Maintain systems for hazard identification, occurrence reporting, risk assessment, and safety issue tracking, ensuring hazards are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Monitor and track safety recommendations and mitigation actions arising from safety reports, investigations, and risk assessments.
  • Develop and maintain safety procedures, guidelines, and documentation related to the SMS.
  • Develop and deliver safety training, awareness, and communication initiatives to promote a positive safety culture across the organization.
  • Support the collection, monitoring, and reporting of Safety Performance Indicators and Safety Performance Targets.
  • Provide technical advice on safety matters, safety performance trends, and safety management processes.
  • Coordinate with SMCAA inspectors on safety-related matters and ensure ATS safety management activities remain aligned with the organization’s SMS policies and procedures.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., aviation, safety, or engineering), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Several years of experience in safety management, preferably within an aviation or aerodrome environment.
  • Sound knowledge of ICAO Annex 19, SMS principles (e.g., ICAO Doc 9859), and applicable SMCAA safety requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in hazard identification, risk assessment, and safety performance monitoring (SPIs/SPTs).
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and reporting skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
